Seven Hills Speech Language Pathologist, Shale Carey, shares why she loves her work

Shale-SLPWhen I first came across Seven Hills Foundation, I knew immediately that it was the perfect place for me. My passion as a Speech Language Pathologist has always been working with students, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder and neurodevelopmental disabilities. This is my wheelhouse—where I feel most comfortable, where I thrive, and where I truly care about making a difference.

The most rewarding part of my work is the moments of connection. When a student and I share a moment of joint attention, when they smile with excitement, or when they engage with me in a way they haven’t before—that is everything. Seeing the progress our students make, no matter how big or small, is truly incredible. What might seem like a small step to someone unfamiliar with our population—like a student independently picking up their communication device to express themselves—is actually a massive achievement for us. Those moments remind me why I do what I do.

For a Speech Language Pathologist considering a career within Seven Hills Foundation, I can wholeheartedly say it is an incredible place to work. The collaborative nature of our work, the supportive team environment, and the wealth of knowledge among my colleagues make this an unparalleled experience.

At the end of the day, this work is about passion, commitment, and connection. Seven Hills Foundation provides the perfect space for all of that and more, and I am truly grateful to be a part of it.
