Opioid Epidemic Forum

Rep. Antonio F.D. Cabral with Connie Rocha-MimosoOn Thursday evening, March 30, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Bureau of Substance Abuse Services, in conjunction with Rep. Antonio F.D. Cabral (in photo), hosted the Prevention Response to the Opioid Epidemic forum. Speakers included New Bedford Police Chief Joseph C. Cordeiro, Carl Alves of Positive Action Against Chemical Addiction, Fernando Perlas and Andy Robinson of the DPH, Dr. Michael Rocha of the Physicians to Prevent Opioid Abuse and Connie Rocha-Mimoso of Seven Hills Behavioral Health (in photo) presented information and answered questions at the two-hour discussion.

The goal of the evening: to ensure everyone went home with all the resources needed to help themselves or loved ones battling addiction. By the end of the night it was clear the opioid crisis plays no favorites when it comes to class, race, status or creed.

"It's important we keep this dialogue going outside of this room," Cabral said.
