Seven Hills Rhode Island and project partners for its three-year grant initiative from the Administration for Community Living to strengthen care for older adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), as well as Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRD) walked in Newport on Sunday, September 17, to help raise funds to end Alzheimer’s disease.
It's a gray, rainy late summer afternoon, and four members of New Bedford's opioid outreach program have gathered outside the city's police headquarters. They're about to head out on the streets, to search for people who recently survived an opioid overdose. The police officer on today's team is Lt. Arthur Hegarty. He's not in uniform — just khakis, a short-sleeved collared shirt, and fleece vest. He has a clipboard with names and addresses of seven people the team will try to visit. Most of the addresses come from 911 calls reporting overdoses.
