Wayland Free Public Library Presentations

The Wayland Library will offer the first seminar in a series titled “The Path to Independence” on Monday, Jan. 30. This monthly speaker series for adults with disabilities and their families will address the major life and career needs of the disabled adult population.

Ann Knight, Wayland Free Public Library Director and Deborah Harrison, speech and language pathologist, collaborate to offer The Path to Independence for disabled adults and their families.

Deborah Harrison, founder and president of Creative Communications Consulting in Wayland, conceived and designed the series, which will consist of five monthly seminars. Harrison will offer a seminar on time management, organization and communication skills. Additional experts will cover employment options, health insurance, Social Security disability, housing and nutrition.

Seminars will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wayland Library on the last Monday of each month.

“When Deborah approached me with her idea for this series, I knew that it was something I wanted to support,” said Wayland Library Director Ann Knight. “These presentations will help us fulfill our mission as a provider of quality information to a group of people who are probably underserved by libraries and communities in general. I am proud that our library can provide a program that offers adults with disabilities and their families information and resources to help them make informed decisions.”
“There are an array of services available to the disabled adult who is trying to live independently, said Harrison. “However, obtaining these services can be confusing and arduous without professional guidance. ‘The Path to Independence’ will demystify the process and give these adults and their families the information they need to move forward.”

The seminars will be FREE of charge; no registration required.
