Sports, Recreation, & Leisure
Seven Hills Family Services is pleased to be able to facilitate sports, both recreational and competitive teams, recreational activities and leisure programs for children and adults throughout the greater Worcester area. We are able to offer a wide array of programs; all coordinated, supervised and coached by knowledgeable staff and talented volunteers. Many of the sports offer opportunities to compete in local and state tournaments. Generally, programs are offered evenings and weekends. Teams and programs are organized on a seasonal basis, and registration is announced through the PRIDE, In Achievement Newsletter.
Sports, Recreation, and Leisure programs assist our participants in developing:

Special Olympics Sports
Special Olympics Unified Competitive Soccer ages 8-21
When: Sunday afternoons September-November
Where: Assumption College’s Lacrosse field
Team: Unified Seniors (ages 16-21); Unified Juniors
(ages 8-15)
Cost: $20 per athlete
Requirements: These teams are competitive and are for those athletes who possess knowledge of soccer. Athletic attire, athletic shoes, shin guards, mouth guard(optional).
Commitment: Weekly practice, the assessment round, and the state tournament held in Byfield, MA
Paperwork: Emergency Fact Sheet and Special Olympics Medical
Special Olympics Competitive Basketball ages 8+
When: Sunday afternoons Dec-March
Where: Bancroft School
Teams: (ages 22+); Unified Masters (ages 22+); Unified Seniors (ages 13-21); Unified Juniors (ages 8-15)
Cost: $60 per athlete and partner
Requirements: Athletic attire, athletic shoes. These teams are competitive and are for those athletes who possess knowledge of the sport
Commitment: Weekly practice, the assessment round, and the overnight state tournament held in Worcester, MA
Paperwork: Emergency Fact Sheet and Special Olympics Medical
Special Olympics Competitive Bocce ages 18+
When: Monday evenings, June-August
Where: East Park
Cost: $60 per athlete and partner
Requirements: Athletic attire and shoes
Commitment: Weekly practice, the assessment round, and the overnight state tournament held in Amherst, MA
Paperwork: Emergency Fact Sheet and Special Olympics Medical
Special Olympics Competitive Softball ages 18+
When: Wednesday evenings, June-August
Where: TBA
Teams: Unified Masters (ages 22+)
Cost: $60 per athlete and partner
Requirements: Athletic attire, athletic shoes, softball glove. Athletes need to have some knowledge of softball
Commitment: Weekly practice, the assessment round, and the overnight state tournament held in Amherst, MA

Special Olympics Traditional Competitive Aquatics
ages 22+
When: Monday evenings, Feb-June
Where: Greendale YMCA
Team: Traditional Master (ages 22+)
Cost: $60 per athlete
Requirements: Bathing suit.This team is for athletes who will be competing competitively in aquatics. Athletes need to know how to swim-athletes will perfect their swimming skills.
Commitment: Weekly practice, the qualifier, and the overnight state tournament held in Boston, MA

Recreational Sports (Non-Competitive)
Unified Recreational Juniors Basketball (ages 8-15)
When: Wednesday evenings, Dec-March
Where: Fanning Building
Team: Unified Juniors recreational
Cost: $15per athlete and partner
Requirements: Athletic attire, athletic shoes
Commitment: None
Paperwork: Emergency Fact Sheet and Special Olympics Medical or copy of recent physical
Unified Recreational Teen Skills Basketball
(ages 16-21)
When: Friday evenings, Dec-March
Where: Clark St. School
Team: Unified Seniors recreational
Cost: $15 per athlete and partner
Requirements: Athletic attire, athletic shoes
Commitment: None
Paperwork: Emergency Fact Sheet and Special Olympics Medical or copy of recent physical
Unified Semi-Competitive Recreational Basketball
(ages 16+)
When: Friday evenings, Dec-March
Where: Clark St. School
Team: Unified Masters recreational
Cost: $15 per athlete and partner
Requirements: Athletic attire, athletic shoes. This practice is for those athletes who have knowledge of basketball.
Commitment: None
Paperwork: Emergency Fact Sheet and Special Olympics Medical or copy of recent physical
Adaptive Ski Program (ages 8-adult)
This is a new program being offered in conjunction with Wachusett Mountain Ski Resort, details are pending. Please contact Jen Masnik, Director, for more information.
Whiffle Ball
Whiffle Ball is very similar to the sport of Softball. Whiffle Ball will be played indoors and with a plastic ball instead of a softball. Practices will consist of working on each athlete's skills, team play, and mini games. Don't forget to bring either a softball or baseball glove.
When: Sunday afternoons
Where: Assumption College's Plourde Recreation Center
Cost: Free
Paperwork: Emergency Fact Sheet and a copy of a recent physical form or Special Olympics form
**Sneakers or shoes with non-marking rubber soles and athletic attire (t-shirts, shorts, sweat pants, wind-pants, etc.) must be worn to class (NO JEANS). Don't forget to bring plenty of water.
Recreation
Y.A.M. Fitness (ages 16+)
This class is a combination of Yoga, Aerobics and Mat Pilates.
When: Tuesday evenings
Where: TBA
Cost: $5 per class
Paperwork: Emergency Fact Sheet-Recent Physical Form (Special Olympics medical may be used).
Fusions Dance Extension Program
Fusions Dance Extension Program will be teaching different varieties of dance that will help build self-confidence, improve coordination, and most of all, provide a fun environment for people of all abilities. Separate sessions will be offered for youth ages 8-15, and teens/adults 16+.
When: Thursday evenings
Where: 81 Hope Avenue
Cost: $5 per class. Session must be paid in full on or before the first class
Paperwork: Emergency Fact Sheet, copy of recent physical form, or Special Olympics medical

Music Therapy
Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. The group will make use of musical improvisation, receptive music listening, songwriting, or lyric discussion depending on the assessed needs of the participants. In the hands of a therapist, music is able to provide a structure binding group members together to work toward therapeutic goals. Groups will be offered to ages 8-15 and 16+. We will also make every effort to appropriately place participants in groups based upon skill level.

Social and Leisure Programs
Holy Cross Dinner Dance (ages 18+)
Semi-formal dinner dance held at the Hogan Center on the Campus of the College of the Holy Cross. The dance is usually held on an evening during the week from 6-10pm in late fall. The cost averages $25 per person and proper attire is requested. Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis, as seating is limited the night of the event. Reservations are not taken over the phone. Look for the flyer and reservation form in the fall issue of PRIDE. Reservations must be accompanied by a check and in before the deadline. Seven Hills Family Services does not provide staff support for this event. If the attendee needs support, staff should accompany the individual. Everyone who wishes to be served a meal needs to buy a ticket.

Where: Hogan Center, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA
Cost: Averages $25 per person

**If you require 1:1 assistance or supervision, we do ask that you provide your own supports as volunteers are limited.
**Activities for participants under the age of 16 require a parent or guardian to stay during the entirety of the program.
**As with any physical activity, please consult your physician prior to participating.
**Transportation is not provided by Seven Hills Family Services. The individual and their family are responsible for setting up transportation to and from activities.
