Philanthropy Dignity by Design Capital Campaign Seven Hills Foundation announces a $3 Million capital campaign to design and build a state-of-art pediatric skilled nursing community for the most profoundly disabled children. Seven Hills Pediatric Center , formerly the Children’s Extended Care Center operated by Children’s Hospital of Boston, was built in 1951 to serve as a community hospital. An active facility, always at capacity and in continual use, the buildings that make up Seven Hills Pediatric Center have never undergone any substantial structural renovation or improvements. When Seven Hills Foundation purchased the Groton property in January 2004, it was with the vision of dramatically improving and expanding the facility for the children and young adults who live there now. Seven Hills Pediatric Center provides comprehensive health care, therapy and education in a residential nursing home setting, to children and young adults. The qualified, professional staff at Seven Hills Pediatric Center is highly trained and capable of caring for individuals with the most severe and complex medical and developmental needs. Once residents are referred to Seven Hills Pediatric Center from hospital settings, they typically reside with us for the remainder of their lives. Currently, the residents are housed in a stark, traditional nursing home environment, many sharing a room with three other residents. The rooms are filled to capacity with the substantial equipment (ventilators, nebulizers, and feeding pumps) required by each resident. The hallways are cluttered and there is no common space for families to visit with their loved ones. When renovated, Seven Hills Pediatric Center will serve as a prototype nationally for other pediatric skilled nursing communities. Seven Hills Pediatric Center will become a dignified environment that will include an inviting community space, living rooms, and 24 additional rooms for the children that reside there. The Dignity by Design campaign is based on the premise that all children have the right to live in an environment that feels like a home. Please join Seven Hills Foundation and consider making a gift toward the work of this important capital campaign. Together, we will fulfill our mission of promoting and encouraging the empowerment of people with significant challenges.
