Philanthropy Overview Seven Hills Foundation supports the welfare of people with developmental, physical, psychological, and related disabilities. Incorporated in 1953 by parents of children with disabilities, it has grown to be one of the most comprehensive human service agencies in New England. Its broad range of services, including education, housing, occupational training, rehabilitation, and therapeutic and social recreation, foster the dignity, independence, and self-determination of every individual served. A gift to Seven Hills Foundation provides critical support for these programs, while offering significant tax advantages to you and your heirs. As a donor to Seven Hills Foundation, you become part of the legacy of caring and support that has improved the lives of thousands of individuals over the past 50 years. Gifts to Seven Hills Foundation can be made in different ways, depending on your circumstances and philanthropic goals. Gifts may be made in your own name, anonymously, or may be established as lifetime memorials to loved ones, carrying their names in perpetuity. Consult your lawyer or financial advisor as you make your plans, and please feel free to call the Seven Hills Foundation Advancement Office at any time regarding any questions that you may have. Remember, because Seven Hills Foundation is a non-profit organization, your gift is tax deductible.
Financial Contributions and Gifts Gifts of Cash
Gifts of Securities Gifts of appreciated securities may be deducted at full market value on the date of the transfer to Seven Hills Foundation. You will not be subject to tax on the appreciated value of the securities unless you are subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax.
Gifts of Real Estate and other Tangible Property A gift of real estate or other capital assets (stock in closely-held companies, oil or mineral rights, works of art, jewelry, books, and so forth) can be sold for the immediate benefit of Seven Hills Foundation or, in certain circumstances, given to Seven Hills Foundation for future sale. Although the responsibility for appraisal rests with the donor, that expense is tax deductible if you itemize. It is also possible to make a gift of real estate to Seven Hills Foundation and retain the right to live on the property during your lifetime.
Bequests A bequest is simply a gift made through a will, which can be worded to suit your wishes. There are several forms of bequest:
Should you decide to make a bequest to Seven Hills Foundation, your legal advisor may find the following declaration useful: “I give and bequeath free of all duties to the Seven Hills Foundation, Inc. absolutely for the general charitable purposes or the said Association. I direct that a receipt of the treasurer or any other proper officer for the time being of Seven Hills Foundation, Inc. shall be sufficient discharge of my trustee.” If your bequest is more complex, a representative of Seven Hills Foundation, can advise you on all your options. If you have already made a will, your lawyer can simply make the necessary changes to include Seven Hills Foundation. Seven Hills Legacy Fund Life insurance has traditionally been secured to meet a wide range of personal financial objectives, from protecting income to creating savings to paying estate settlement expenses. In recognition of Seven Hills Foundation’s 50th Anniversary, we initiated the Seven Hills Legacy Fund. Directors and Trustees of Seven Hills Foundation were the first to recognize and honor their family members in a very special way through the gift of life insurance. Now, the Leave a Legacy Memorial Wall is open to anyone that would like to acknowledge a loved one. Each honoree will receive recognition on the Seven Hills Family Legacy Memorial Wall. This memorial is located prominently in the main entrance at our Hope Avenue main offices. With your gift, you are purchasing $25,000 in life insurance to benefit Seven Hills Foundation. As with other gift options there are a number of payment methods available. The annual gift is tax deductible. The life insurance is automatically issued, with no medical exams necessary. The application is simple to complete Your $25,000 gift of life insurance to Seven Hills Foundation will guarantee that Seven Hills Foundation will be around for another 50 years, to continue its dedicated service throughout the Commonwealth.
