Seven Hills Behavioral Health Receives Important Alcohol Prevention Education Grant

In collaboration with New Bedford Public Schools, Seven Hills Behavioral Health (formerly the Center for Human Services) has received grant funding in the amount of $450,000 for a major initiative in the schools called Comprehensive Approaches to Alcohol Prevention (CAAP). Mayor Frederick M. Kalisz, Jr. and School Superintendent Michael E. Longo announced the award which came from the United States Department of Education.

The CAAP will employ a comprehensive set of school and community based prevention and early intervention strategies with the goal of replicating previous success in tobacco prevention among youth as achieved by the communities and the Seven Hills Behavioral Health. Seven Hills Behavioral Health is one of only two primary community partners in the program. The CAAP is dedicated to raising awareness and changing community norms about alcohol among youth and adults. The focus will be to organize the community and especially parents to help counter underage drinking and access to alcohol. Seven Hills Behavioral Health will be working closely with the New Bedford Public Schools over the next three years.
