Seven Hills at Groton is Beneficiary of
Longwood Symphony Orchestra Performance
On Saturday, March 10, the Longwood Symphony Orchestra,
an orchestra comprised of medical professionals from the Longwood Medical area of Boston, performed a benefit concert for Seven Hills at Groton, an affiliate of Seven Hills Foundation, at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston. The performance included musical scores from Beethoven, Barber, Debussy, and Yehudi Wyner, who attended the concert and spoke to the audience about his composition, Epilogue. Barbara Quintiliani, soprano, wowed the crowd with her emotional interpretation of the final number, Barber’s Andromache’s Farewell, Op. 39. Immediately following the event, concert attendees and musicians gathered in the Keller Room for a reception hosted by Seven Hills Foundation.
A most sincere thank you is extended to the evening’s sponsors: Boston-area Wal-Mart stores, Mr. Paul Couture and Mr. David Tinsley, The Patterson Family, and Penobscot Investment Management. The organization appreciates the many supporters and expresses its gratitude to Ms. Deborah Needleman who initiated the event.
The evening was a huge success, raising awareness and funding for Seven Hills at Groton, a pediatric skilled nursing community that provides residential and respite care for children and young adults who are profoundly developmentally delayed and have complex medical needs. It is currently in the middle of a capital campaign – “Dignity by Design” – to raise $3 million for a two-phase expansion and renovation project. Recently completing Phase I, the facility opened its new West Wing, adding 35,000 square feet of large, brightly decorated living rooms; physical and occupational therapy treatment rooms; and an accredited, private special needs school. Phase II, the modernization of the original building’s interior, is on schedule to be completed this summer.
The children and young adults who are cared for at Seven Hills at Groton receive medical, nursing, therapy, and leisure services, which enhance their quality of life. Attending school, participating in community activities, and attending field trips and special performances are an integral part of their daily schedule.
