Community Based Day Support Partners With The Age Center of Worcester
Seven Hills Family Services newest program offering, Community Based Day Support will be collaborating with The Age Center of Worcester to deliver Meals on Wheels to elderly who are unable to attend a meal at a local dining site due to frailty, disability, or illness. Meals on Wheels is made possible by the many volunteers who give their time each day to deliver prepared meals during the lunchtime hours.
Seven Hills Family Services is pleased to announce that Community Based Day Support participants have been invited to support the Meals on Wheels program by assisting with delivery. Every Monday and Friday the Community Based Day Support participants and staff will take vans to the Senior Center to pick up the prepared foods, packaged in warm holding containers, and then they, along with a job coach, will be given a delivery route for the day and begin their deliveries. Traditionally, there is a bond that develops between the elderly who receive delivery of their meals at their home, and the volunteer who drops off the prepared meal. These relationships are important aspects of the program and Community Based Day Support is pleased to have this emotional component be part of the Meals on Wheels experience.
The collaboration of these two organizations is vital to the welfare of the elderly in our communities, but also greatly enhances the lives of individuals who will have the opportunity to help others through their volunteerism. This program will help to instill confidence, develop empathy for others, and bring a general sense of well being to all of those involved. Assuring that each of the participants in our programs realize that they are an integral part of the community in which they live is a basic principle of Community Based Day Support and, developing programs such as this is at the center of our mission.
