Guatemala Partnership

Guatemala is a developing nation in Central America, and home to incredible natural beauty. Yet, the nation faces critical environmental sustainability challenges. In Guatemala, SHGO is partnered with the organization EntreMundos, which works as an intermediary between international volunteers and local organizations to increase capacity and maximize impact. Through EntreMundos’ connection, SHGO supports the rural area of Loma Linda and its associated resident organization, called ASODIL. ASODIL works to promote conservation of the natural habitat which surrounds the Loma Linda community, while emphasizing environmental education, local knowledge and capacity, ecotourism, organic farming, sustainable coffee production, and more. SHGO supports ASODIL through a scholarship fund, as well as by completing the first volunteer ecotourism trip through the organization in January 2011.
